Yes, all very well said David. Unfortunately, we in Australia are currently very complacent about our own defence and the current preparedness for war of the ADF. We are sitting on the coattails of the US and assuming they will save us if war breaks out - the US might have its own issues in a war with China. Our government needs to start communicating about our defence predicament and start spending money on defence rather than cancelling vital defence projects. The $7B military satellite project recently cancelled is just one example of our governments lack of commitment to our current defence position. Of course, the nuclear submarines come to mind, but building them in Australia is 15 years away.
Nobody knows what the convicted felon is going to do.. That's part of the scary end of things. His cabinet is filled with a slew of incompetents and hatemongers. Personally, I suspect Trump will end the war by capitulating. Ukraine will, once again, become a part of Russia. Then, Putin will go after someone else.
I had an almost identical epiphany re Trump but not completely identical. I saw the people in the US needing a a reason to believe in someone or something a few years back and felt it would be Donald Trump. Okay he says some strange things, and his face is a dark orange, and he has white hands...but that was not going to deter them, he was full of energy and positive promises. An attempt to kill him made him even more powerful... they needed hope and he gave it to them in bucketloads. The US needs Trump right now or they will have to learn Russian or Mandarin or actually disappear in a big puff of smoke from the Iranian government. They have really been led into a black hole by the democrats. Sounds a bit familiar to me living here.
Like I said, Jan, I have no faith in faith. There's too much empirical evidence against it. And many of the incoming president's picks for key posts and departmental positions are laughable, so...
